North-East Truck Camping Jamboree.

Hello Everyone....

Back in January,2007 an RV.Net poster who goes by the name  "Striker101" (Mike S.)posted to see if there was any interest from owners of Truck Campers in getting together for some type of gathering..That little post has grew and grew into what we today  know as the
"North-East Truck Camping Jamboree"

The first ever Jamboree was set for May,18-19-20,2007 at Horseshoe Acres Campground in Andover Vermont. This Campground was picked for its huge safari field and enclosed pavilion, and central proximity to the Northeast and New England States...

Mike Tassinari volunteered to be the WagonMaster for this event. He hit the Internet seeking donations related to Truck Camping....TorkLift International the makers of True Frame Mounted Tie Downs, came through in a big way by donating winter coats, hats, and a set of their stainless steel Fastgun Tie downs...Along with items from Camping World and private donations,it was a very successful endeavor..

We started off the weekend by having a Hot Dog roast on Friday Night using the open campfire out at the fire pit and Mike's home made roasting sticks to cook the dogs.Condiments were available to dress up your hot dog to your individual tastes. It rain off and on from Friday to Sunday morning but did not deter this hearty group of campers from the various events.

Saturday morning brought in some more Truck Campers, and the group made many new friends that day...During the day,a group of volunteered judges went  to various rigs to look at personal modifications to the campers.Prises were being offered for best Non-Factory modification done by one of the Ladies and another for the Men.

Saturday afternoon, Cathie T.the Activities Director held a 1 hour bingo game where Necco Candy Wafers were used for bingo markers. Scratch tickets were given out as prizes. You could tell the group was getting hungry when the last bingo game (coverall) was announced, suddenly you heard the crunch of Necco Waffers being broken up, because everyone was EATING the darn things. We all had a good laugh and left the hall to prepare for the upcoming Pot Luck Supper.

Saturday night brought forth the first but not the last of our famous Pot Luck Suppers..You were able to pick and choose from many culinary dishes prepared for this gathering. Mike T and Cathie donated a large beef roast and Mike, dressed in his chef’s hat and coat, cooked it on his grill. No one went away hungry. Afterwards we held the raffle, were for 20 Dollars you were given an arms length of tickets. You took these tickets and put them in the individual cups beside prize you were interested in. Its no wounder the stainless steel TorkLift tie downs needed a second cup to hold all those tickets. Afterwards we sat around the campfire telling tall tales and eating popcorn.

Sunday morning the sun finally made an appearance and the  pancake breakfast began. What started out as a simple pancake with a choice of plain/strawberry or blueberry toppings turned out into a chefs delight. Grills were brought out, sausages on one, bacon on another, home fries on a third. Somehow the guys turned out cooking breakfast so the women could just sit and enjoy being waited on. There was even a 55 cup coffee brewer to keep everyone in coffee. Some of the group were suppose to leave early for a previous engagements but stayed seeing the amount of offerings for the breakfast.

Afterward everyone helped in the clean up of the pavilion and the safari field and started packing up their rigs to head back home where ever that may be...

All together we had 22 truck campers participate in this first North-East Truck Camping Jamboree and many request brought to my attention to "DO IT AGAIN"

I would like to give a special thanks to Torklift International and their representative Heidi Black-Hope who helped made this event a smashing success..
